Marigold Collective's Kantha Lifestyle products are handmade by women artisans in Bangladesh. These women have broken away from the sex trade and now make their living making handicrafts in a certified fair trade environment.
Sacred Mark is a World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and their mission is to develop the social and economic capacity of former sex workers by creating new employment opportunities.
This artisan group changes the lives of these women by offering a funded training program with the goal of cultivating respect, pride, and legitimacy within their society. Sacred Mark’s producer’s children now all study at schools and some have attended college. These artisan producers are now participating members of their communities and maintain a savings fund on their own.
Sacred Mark’s recycled Sari line started with the classic Throw. Throws are traditional and a familiar product in Bangladesh - easy to sew and the artisan producers are happy to make them. Recycled saris are purchased locally from wholesale suppliers and producers develop the product designs. Each Sari Kantha Throw is two-sided and reversible with a different color and pattern on each side.
